While the construction involved in hard landscaping and garden structures can be undertaken throughout the year, the best time of year to plant trees and shrubs is in autumn and winter, because  there is less chance of the weather turning dry until the following early summer. In autumn and early winter there is also some remaining warmth in the soil to start immediate root growth.

Deciduous varieties of trees, hedging shrubs and fruit trees, can often be bought more cost-effectively as “bare-root” plants in autumn and winter. That said, planting can and does take place successfully all year round, although in the drier and warmer months this uses potted plants accompanied by plenty of watering.

At Natural Gardens we take great care to source good quality trees and shrubs from reputable local nurseries, and can offer a professional planting service too.
